Borders Made Easy on Wedding Quilt project

I can report it was pretty darn easy, using a product called Borders Made Easy!

I ordered this from Keepsakequilting.com – 5″ HEART 408 BORDERS MADE EASY – price was $15.49 per roll plus shipping.

I pinned to the border while measuring; just to keep things straight. Once I was happy with the placement, I pulled the tape cover off the product and stuck it down on the quilt.  I was able to get all four borders done in a couple of hours!

Didn’t come with “corners” so I made my own using a piece of the roll and angling

stitched through the papers; need to remove some flecks

I worked one side at a time; as the instructions indicated.

Pleased with the ease of use, would recommend it if you are not confident on your free motion quilting skills.

Couple of notes… I left my 1/4″ quilting foot on; did not lower my feed dogs. I moved my quilt around to follow the stitch lines at first; keeping the needle down whenever I wanted to change directions.  After a bit of man-handling the queen size quilt, I tried just guiding through the curves without stopping and that really worked well.  I kept my machine on the medium speed, and my stitch length setting was 2.5.  It was very consistant.  My experience dropping feed dogs leads me to inconsistant stitching, so this worked for me.    I was not always “ON” the stitch line, sometimes on one side or the other, but I followed the general shape of things pretty decently.

I will use this product again….I thought I needed 32 ft; and it comes in a 26 foot roll; so I ordered two rolls.  I ended up with about 6 inches left over.  I will hang on to the second roll for another quilt.  Next time I order these, I will go for straight lines. I think it would be easier.

Time to get busy with the binding now!
